PEREKAZK (762 words): St. Petersburg, 60s of the XIX century. One hot July evening, Rodion Romanovich Raskolnikov, a former student, being in a difficult financial situation, goes to the old woman - interest-bearing agent Alena Ivanovna, wanting to get at least some money for a silver watch. On the way, the young man indulges in the obsession about ... murder.
Going on the way to the drinking room, Raskolnikov met a bizarre, once official Marmeladov, who, weary of communication, tells the young man about the difficult fate of his family: illness and hunger forced his wife, Katerina Ivanovna, to send her daughter Sonya “on a yellow ticket” to save family. Having penetrated this story, the student decides to take Marmeladov home. The unheated and damp “corner” where the Marmeladovs live is striking in poverty. Having witnessed the Marmeladov family quarrels, Rodion leaves, while putting them some money on the windowsill.
The next day, the student receives a letter from his mother in which Pulcheria Alexandrovna describes the misfortunes that happened to his sister Avdotya at the Svidrigailov estate. In addition, women will soon arrive in St. Petersburg due to the planned wedding of Avdotya. The groom is the court adviser Petr Petrovich Luzhin, who wants to marry a girl from a poor family, and then reproach her with this. After this news, Raskolnikov, obsessed with the idea of “trembling creatures” and “the right of those who have it,” becomes stronger in his desire to kill Alena Ivanovna. On the eve of the crime, the hero sees a dream about a nag beaten to death, and an aversion to violence creates a conflict in the soul.
Raskolnikov still carries out his plan. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the student takes the life of not only the mortgagor, but also her pregnant sister Lizaveta, who suddenly went into the apartment. Leaving the scene of a bloody crime, the student hid stolen wealth under a stone, not even evaluating their value.
Awareness of the act and the fear of being revealed provoke a fever in the hero. Comrade Raskolnikov, Razumikhin, takes care of him. From his conversation with the doctor, Rodion found out that the murder suspect had been arrested. It turned out to be a painter Mikolka. A sudden illness and a strange reaction to the news of the murder provoke suspicion among others.
Going out into the street, the student notices the people crowding around a man crushed by a carriage. It turned out to be Marmeladov. Raskolnikov could not get past this incident and donates to the dying man all his savings. Marmeladov is taken to the house and called a doctor, where Rodion meets Katerina Ivanovna and Sonechka, saying goodbye to her father in a vulgar dress. For a moment, the hero felt a connection with people. In his soul, the hope lights up to get closer to the same “criminal” Sonya. Returning home, Rodion meets his mother and sister. Seeing loved ones, Raskolnikov loses consciousness. In love with the beautiful Avdotya, Razumikhin decides to take care of the Raskolnikov family.
Wanting to relieve himself of suspicion, Rodion meets with investigator Porfiry Petrovich. Porfiry is interested in Raskolnikov’s article “On Crime,” inviting him to explain the theory of “two categories of people,” according to which one must follow the rules, while others can decide their fate, forgetting about morality. The astute investigator recognizes the hero as a real criminal, only an insufficient number of evidence forces him to let the student go, hoping for a confession.
Unexpectedly for all, Arkady Ivanovich Svidrigailov arrives in the city. After meeting Raskolnikov, a man notes a similarity between them. Rodion, in turn, is attracted by Svidrigailov’s imaginary ability to enjoy life, forgetting about the crimes committed. Raskolnikov, wanting to escape from loneliness, visits Sonya. It turns out that Marmeladova was familiar with the murdered Lizaveta. The girl reads to Rodion about the resurrection of Lazarus, dreaming of happiness in her life.
Exhausted by his own experiences, Raskolnikov returns to Porfiry. An experienced investigator skillfully plays with him, building traps. The enraged Raskolnikov almost betrayed himself, but Mikolka’s confession of murder saves the situation.
At the wake, killed by misfortune, Katerina Ivanovna curses with Amalia Lippevehzel. The appearance of Luzhin is heating up the situation. Having previously hidden the money in Sonya's apron, the man accuses her of stealing one hundred rubles. Fortunately, a witness of what happened appears on the spot and publicly convicts Luzhin of slander.
Raskolnikov and Marmeladova return to Sonya's room. The young man confesses to the bloody reprisal with the old woman and her sister. The girl does not move away from him, but rather regrets and swears to go to hard labor together.
Meanwhile, distraught Katerina Ivanovna makes children sing on the street. Due to throat bleeding, a woman dies. Arkady Svidrigailov, who watched this misfortune, takes care of the children and the funeral.
Raskolnikov awaits Porfiry, who convinces the student to plead guilty. Inspired by Svidrigailov’s example, Rodion does not give up hope of drowning the voice of conscience ... However, after Svidrigailov’s confession, he became convinced that Arkady Ivanovich’s life was futile and unbearable for him. The last thread to life was for him Dunechka. However, making sure that there can be no love, Svidrigailov shoots himself. Before recognition, Rodion said goodbye to his family and promised to start life from scratch. He still believes in the correctness of his judgments and reproaches himself for not being able to “become Napoleon”. The young man was sentenced to exile in Siberia. Sonia goes with him. Pulcheria Alexandrovna died, and her sister married Razumikhin.
Even among the other prisoners, Raskolnikov looks detached. Once in the hospital, Rodion dreams of terrible trichines that took possession of people and gave rise to blind pride in them. He realized the falsity of his judgments, and feelings for Sonya awaken in his soul.
REVIEW (142 words): Roman F.M. Dostoevsky's “Crime and Punishment” - this is exactly the work that everyone should read. The author masterfully managed to convey the atmosphere of St. Petersburg of the 60s of the XIX century, as well as to give the reader the opportunity to feel the emotional experiences that accompany the characters throughout the novel.
I was imbued with the story of the main character - Rodion Raskolnikov - a former student who barely makes ends meet. Despite the fact that Raskolnikov’s “theory of exclusiveness” is alien to me, I understand his feelings. Because each of us made mistakes, and at least once fell under the influence of obsessions and goals.
I think Fedor Mikhailovich wanted to convey to the reader that a crime always entails punishment, and torment of conscience can be worse than hard labor.
However, the love and faith of Sonya Marmeladova helped to find freedom and find the true path to Rodion. After reading the novel, I understood a simple truth: love, humility, and atonement are the path to moral rebirth.
